timisoara-christmas-market-2018

It’s almost that time of the year again! It is getting colder, the first snowflakes have dropped and we are all getting ready for the festive season! From our experience, the Timisoara Christmas Market 2018 is going to be our city’s main tourist attraction for the following month, so if you are in town this December (or early January) read on…

The 11th edition of the Timisoara Christmas Market

Even though Timisoara’s Christmas market may not be as popular as that of near-by capitals (Budapest, Vienna), we do have a tradition of organizing a Christmas Market each year and the year 2018 will mark the 11th edition of the local Christmas market.

Timisoara Christmas Market 2018: when and where?

This year’s Christmas Market will be open starting with December 1st and until January 10th. The market can be visited daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., but each merchant is allowed to alter their opening hours.

The location is, as in previous years, the main square in Timisoara, Victory Square. The area in front of the Opera House will be dedicated to shows (more on that later), while the walkways from the Opera House to the Cathedral will be hosting various “huts” with potential Christmas gifts.

On the right-hand side (when facing the Opera House), there will be a dedicated area for food and drinks: traditional Romanian food (sausages, cheese, but also pastries), local wine and beer – you’ll find it all here.

Unlike in previous years, the Christmas Market will be extended all the way to Liberty Square this year. Here you will find local artisans and handmade artists. You will be able to purchase presents directly from local producers, and you will also have the opportunity to take part in various workshops.

Timisoara Christmas Market: the events

And since it’s December and it’s the most wonderful year, we should celebrate, have fun and be entertained! Expect to hear music in Victory Square, almost every evening. The music varies from very popular pop music to blues and even folk music. All of the artists are Romanian.
